Sweet dreams are made of this..................

Good Monday Morning Everyone!!!

I did a quick transformation on my bed this weekend - I do this on a regular basis just to drive John nuts lol.
No actually - because I painted the floors - and put different furniture in there - the bed was looking kind of
blahhhh.

Years ago when we first purchased it, it was one of these

headboard, upholstered, dropcloth

If you can notice - the slats are a little behind the end posts - which meant I was able to have 2 pieces of MDF cut at Home Depot that I could just insert into the frame - I can't find a photo of what it looked like on the head board - and it was changed after - however here's a photo of the footboard which I have kept since

headboard, paint, appliques, antiquing appliques

The headboard and the footboard were identical - I painted out the MDF - we put trim around it - and glued on an applique on each end............... ( just a little side note - to get the appliques like that I first painted them black - then painted white over them lightly - so that the black stayed in all the crevices - I'm sure most of you know that trick - but hey - what if just one of you didn't??? )

A couple of years ago I decided to change the head board again - upholstering it this time ( although I kept the footboard the same as I mentioned above )

I did this by removing the MDF board I had painted - cut out some foam - drilled some holes in the back so I could place buttons on it - and I ended up with this.

headboard, diy,upholstered, buttons

It's a mess in the back I know - but no one ever sees that so it's ok (don't ask what my cupboards look like)
I wanted something new and clean so this weekend I gave the bed a fresh coat of white paint - and reupholstered it in dropcloth - my new obsession

DIY - Upholstering, drop cloth, headboard

No buttons this time - or no buttons for now - who knows - I could change my mind by next wknd
You'd never believe that behind the upholstered MDF is a slat bed, right?
Well YOU would know it because I told you - but no one else would.

I wish Pic Monkey had an option to make a bed - because I'm just too tired to do it myself
and though I'm almost finished this bedroom makeover - I'm still not quite done - so this is all I have
to show today ( I seem to be using the words " almost " and  " not quite " frequently lately - have  you noticed? )

headboard, dropcloth, diy, upholstering,easy

Have a good day!
Partying with!

  3. Brilliant idea, I had one of those beds about 16 years ago, should have kept it and done something to it. Blogging, it makes you regret everything you ever got rid of.

I think I like it better without the buttons, ill marry that monkey if it makes beds anytime soon!

  13. Your work is amazing! I love how you have gotten so much use out of one headboard - very creative. BTW, I was the ONE who didn't know you got applique's to look like that by painting black and then white, thanks for putting that in and now maybe someday I can try it!

  16. Holy smokes Suzan... you've been busy!! Your headboard looks fabulous. I agree with Mel... blogging definitely makes me regret everything I ever got rid of. Love your curtains!

  17. I'm going to need a nap in that bed...you are making me tired with all your busy-ness this past week. Clever, clever re-do, Suze.
I love your idea about PicMonkey having the option to make a bed. Please add all the other options we need, too. Like clean house, paint walls, add George Clooney. You know, just the basics.

  21. LOVELY, Suzan!! Good grief, if I had a fraction of the ambition that you have, think of all I could accomplish around here! I hope John appreciates you. :-)

  22. I am loving what you are doing with your bedroom. If you are working in there, where do you sleep? A serious question: Now that the floors are painted, are you doing something special to protect the finish or did you seal them?

  23. Wow. I barely got out of my pyjamas this weekend! For shame! You are amazing! I of course...would not have known tat trick for the applique!! :)

  25. Another great transformation! Any suggestions for transforming my 18th century reproduction mahogany 4 poster rice bed? I loved it 12 years ago. Now, not so much. The best thing is that the frame is so high off the ground that I can shove full sized plastic storage bins under it!

  26. Looks great Suzan! You may never need another bed frame if you keep redesigning this one! Oh, and you can never make too many things out of dropcloths.

  27. You have such a great design sense, Suzan. Love the currentness of each of these transformations from slat bed to upholstered headboard to the dropcloth version. Wow, wow, wow.
