And on the 7th day she rested..................

John worked for 2 hours sanding the top of this vintage dresser - but here she is
All done....................and ready to go

Before

After

I thought stripes would look to busy on all the drawers so decided
to only do the 2 top ones for a little extra detail

love the details on the bottom

I " wrapped " the stripes around the perimeter of the drawers

I have never worked on a piece this solid - this will last another 200 years, definitely!

And with that I am taking a day off - nary a paint brush or sand paper - or tape will
touch my fingers for the next 24 hours..................
It's so bloody humid here that I'm sure had I used any other paint than ASCP it would
still be wet - but even with these extremely high temperatures the drying time was the same
as always - 1 hour - amazing!
Old White- Paris Grey - ASCP

Coming out of storage.................

The pieces just keep getting heavier and heavier - ( or I just keep getting older and older )
but this dresser is hard to even budge, let alone move..................even with the drawers out -
This is so solidly built it's unbelievable...................and see that ugly ugly mirror?  It's even uglier
in person - and cannot be sold with the dresser because of the big crack - so I will eventually
have that cut down to fit another project I am working on.  Even the mirror is thicker than any
mirror I've ever seen -
For some reason when I removed it from the back my legs went so weak I thought they
were going to give out on me - the same feeling I have when I am standing at a very great height,
it felt like vertigo - strange...................it was so heavy I was afraid of it falling and severing a leg
or 2..........................

But I just love the details on this one - and I think it has great potential................

Here's what I did with the mirror
First of all when I turned it around to remove the mirror there was this WOOD backing on it
PERFECT for turning into a chalk board - no buying a pc of plywood and trying to cut it to size

UGLY

whoever designed this mirror and thought those holes were cute must have been on drugs.................
they look like a mirror rash.....................so had to fill them up before doing anything else
and then gave it 2 coats of ASCP old white.

And it still never amazes me after all this time what paint can do.............

and here's where the fun part started
I had a little bit of chalkboard paint left over from painting the back piece - so I dry brushed
it onto the frame and ended up with this

one last time?

Avant

Apres

aged and dirtied and antiqued
vintage mirror transformed!!!

better, n'est pas?

Courtney from French Country Cottage inspired me to do this one - and she has a great
tutorial on them..............Merci Courtney!

I'm off now to paint the dresser -
Have a wonderful Friday night everyone - mine will include some of this

For medicinal purposes don't you know - I paint better with 70's music playing ( sometimes blasting )
and a glass of this beside me..................
Hoya De Cadenas ( a spanish wine if anyone is interested - the red is delish - but because it's so hot
and humid I'm going to try the rose...............)
And why is it that wine tastes soooo much better after 50???

And if you can, pls send as many cyber hugs to Pat ( from http://gypsyheartandsoul.blogspot.ca/ )
who very recently has lost 2 good friends -
1 is dibilitating.
2?
Impossible.
