A Quick Back Splash Solution

Good morning everyone ♥

Well it looks like I only a day or two left in the kitchen before I can show it all - but for now I thought I'd share my quick back splash solution :)

Money's running out - patience has already run out - I want it DONE - sooooo.....................

I had a mirror I bought many years ago - which kind of has an industrial look to it -

and lo and behold it fit in perfectly between the top of the stove and the hood -
( we're shopping for a new stove but in the meantime I needed to put something up there )

Before anyone warns me that I'll be cleaning it all the time - I'm aware of that LOL - but I'd be cleaning white subway tiles ( which is what will be placed over that entire wall eventually ) all the time anyway

And I'm thinking of painting that back wall a very very deep charcoal ( almost black and only the back wall )  until the tiles go up - so much for that "all white house" I was going for - blacks and grey are very hard for me to stay away from.

Remember how that wall looked from the sellers MLS photo?

I should look at that photo more often maybe - every time I'm discouraged at least - it makes me realize how far we've actually come ( instead of whining that it's not moving fast enough - fingers clicking here - c'mon c'mon let's go  )  This was such a major major job - with many nasty surprises along the way - a nightmare if the truth be known - but it's slowly - very slowly becoming more of a dream every day!

John says - WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING NOW?
Suzan says - I'm taking a selfie
John says - A what?
Suzan says - A selfie - you're so not with it
John says - Why would you do that - I can take a picture of you
Suzan says - Then it wouldn't be a selfie - sheesh - I have to explain everything to you
John says - I don't get it - what's the point
Suzan says - I don't get it either - but if everyone else is doing it I don't want to be left out
Suzan says - I don't want to be one of those people that doesn't keep up with the times
Suzan says - All the young people do it all over social media
John says - Uh Huh - all the YOUNG people do it, gotcha ..................

This took about 356 photos to get - and I still couldn't get my face................

♪ Flapping my arms I began to cluck
look at me - I'm the disco duck
Disco, Disco duck ♪

Suzan says - Look what I did
John says - Well that's cool - it looks like your holding a photo of your head up - how did you do that?
Suzan says - I'M A GENIUS - I KEEP TELLING YOU THAT!
John says - I have to tell ya, I'm impressed

Go figure - I can paint 6 pieces of furniture in a week - while renovating....................and nothing
nada - zilch
I run to pic monkey and do this and he's impressed.

But that's my first and last selfie................I'm too old for this crap LOL

Have a great Monday all

A - you're a door able

Good morning everyone :)

I'm trying to figure out where I'm going ultimately with this kitchen of mine ..................

There are so many styles in it that I think it's in a state of mass confusion at the moment ..............

I have the clean crisp look of black and white - which definitely trends on the modern side

The window we're installing is French Cottage

I kept the little original window which is vintage

The metal shelving on either side of the stove is definitely industrial

and now I've gone and thrown in country - real country lol

Somebody stop her....................

I don't know whether to cook Cheateaubriand for deux - or grits

I'm not sure when or how it started - but I'm becoming addicted to doors
and I have to break the habit..............

But for now it's tucked into a corner - where I'll look at it for awhile before making any final decisions on it

Can we call it eclectic?
I like that word - whoever first coined it for decor dilemmas was a genius !!!

See that sign peaking out?
Here's a close up - the time is on a square of blackboard paint - so Margaritaville can happen at any time at all ( as long as I can find the chalk )

Here's an eclectic menu lol

Have a good one all - that's the last of the doors for now ( I have 2 for the Spring to put outside and than I swear to you I'm finished with them )

If you have a fetish for doors you can see 2 others HERE and HERE :)

See you all tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya tomorrow, you're only a day away
( I'll be waiting by the K-K-K-Kitchen door :)

oops - forgot the before

ASCP - Paris Grey mixed with Old White - half and half - dry brushed
and Old White for trim :)

Feel like coming to a party?
I'll be at these !!!

Buffet Makeover ( with wallpaper )

Good morning everyone!!!

I wallpapered my kitchen buffet :)

using wallpaper on the back of a hutch

On Tuesday I showed you our buffet HERE - that I couldn't work on because John was very busy doing undercover work for the American Government - ( he still won't admit it to me )

Here it is as it was ( well after it's first transformation a few years ago anyway ) I had started painting the interior with Duck Egg Blue ( ascp ) and then gave up - probably had to paint something for a client you know that old adage - the Shoemaker's kids went without shoes?

As much as I loved the chicken wire - I removed it to keep peace in the house - John was constantly cutting himself on it ( clutzy I think - since I never did - well I may have once or twice but I just sucked it up because it looked nice )

John says - THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU
Suzan says - for what?
John says - for removing the weapon you had installed on the doors

And because the kitchen is black and white - and because I had that roll of wallpaper left over from the bedroom ( you can see that makeover HERE btw ) and because Danni from SILO HILL FARM -
whose favorite colors are black and white - DID NOT WANT IT -

I decided to try it out on the back of the buffet :)

Danni told me she has never wallpapered anything in her life -
How is that possible?
Not even ONE botched attempt?
So although I'm absolutely positive the rest of you know how to wallpaper - this one's for Danni - God love her :)

Tools of the trade ( for many years I used to just use the bathtub and a sponge and run up and down the hallway with soaking wet pieces of wallpaper, seriously. and I wallpapered many a wall like that in my youth )
All of these can be bought at Home Depot - or a paint store - they make the job quite effortless

Tools of the trade for wallpapering

and a wallpaper tub ( also from Home Depot )

You simply thread the wall paper under the rod and the whole sheet comes out perfectly wet ( no dreaded dry spots that leave bubbles everywhere )

You measure and precut each piece you'll need and slap it on the surface :)

Painted, wallpapered hutch

Then press out the bubbles going in a diagonal direction first - then up and down  ( have a rag ready - because glue will come out as you do this - a LOT of glue actually )

Next you cut off the excess edges - by using your exacto knife - and " scoring " down firmly along the edge

and then you use the roller to make the seams look " seamless " by pressing firmly and rolling up and down several times

it really does work!!!  ( sometimes better than other times lol )

It made a big difference for the look of the buffet

Black, white, wallpapered hutch

I gave it a fresh coat of white paint - and even got ambitious and painted the inside of the doors
( something I was too lazy to do previously )

and filled it up with a few thotchkes and lots of dishes

My soup tureen ( from the Salvation Army - 25.00 - did they rip me off? ) takes center stage now

accessorizing a hutch

Having lights in it makes for a very pretty " night " light - unfortunately it only lights the top because I installed wood shelves in there ( it didn't come with any shelves at all - but originally they would have
been glass to allow the light to filter through to the bottom )  Glass would, however, be far too fragile for constant every day use with dishes and glasses.

It's served me well - actually very well - since my last kitchen had very few cupboards -

Did I mention that I paid 37.50 for this piece originally?

But that was when it looked like this - I painted it right in place when we got it home !!!

I included it in the sale of our last place - but the new owners didn't want it - maybe it isn't as pretty as I think it is LOL

before - kitchen hutch

One more item checked off for the kitchen - now if only the window would get here - I'd be one happy camper ( oh and the floor - I'm getting ulcers looking at the freaking floor HERE.

Kitchen hutch makeover

Now that I'm looking at the photos I'm thinking the chicken wire should go back on LMHO
He'll kill me -

Have a great Thursday everyone
( Danni - get yourself a piece of plywood and wall paper it lol )

Much love,

Sharing with!!!
