Well excuse me........................

But I think you've painted my chair .........................

I wanted something Spring/Summer like - because I've definitely got a bad case of winter doldrums
And so I went with this fabric which I ordered on line.

Most of you liked it - some of you didn't -  John HATED it - while I secretly fretted over it not being what I imagined - it's hard to order things on line and get an accurate perspective of what it'll look like in person.

I told myself that if it didn't look good on the chairs I'd use it somehow in the blue guest room - but I really had a vision in my head

I saw a white French Provincial Dining Set in a Paris Apartment once - with bright colorful chairs - and it got filed away in my brain for  " some day "

It took it's time getting here but " some day " finally arrived !

Ooops - sorry - the fabric isn't stapled in the above photo !

I distressed the edges a little - so that it didn't look quite so pristine

Another thing I worried about was that I just eyeballed the measurements - ( who does that ?  really, there's something wrong with me I know )
But luckily I have just enough for 6 chairs - and I do mean JUST enough !

Here it is all stapled - nice and neat

Most of you that follow know by now that I'm a black and white and grey kind of person - I love color in other's homes - but have never been one to apply it in my own - so I don't quite understand why I'm almost giddy over these - but I am !
Doesn't it look like the happiest dining room chair?

They even make John happy !
Well he's not dancing around with glee or anything - but he actually said last night that he really liked them - and that's GOLD coming from him.

Suzan says - We'll paint the dining room completely white - and these will be the feature !
John says - I'm not sure about that
Suzan says - You're never sure about anything until you see it - you hated this fabric until it was on the chairs.
John says - I haven't made my mind up about keeping this set...............

Ok - we'll let him think I'm selling it -
But I'm not.
I can't.
I'm too in love.

I finished one of the arm chairs as well

I primed them first ( because of fear of tannin coming through AND to save money on paint )
By doing that, it only took 2 coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Pure White

The dining room ( or the office for that matter ) have not been touched yet - it's sealed off so that I don't have to look at it - but here's the seller's photo

Dear God ..............really, just Dear God

I don't even know where to begin - there's panelling and wall paper to come off ( including on the ceiling ) and those horrible heater covers and the color of the floor and and and ............
I'm sure it was lovely in it's hey day - but hey - that day has long since sailed.
We need to change the windows - and put in French doors to the garden - maybe add a window seat - this is going to be a lot of work.
But I know what's going in there when it's finished !

Ok there's only so much I can say about a chair LOL !!!

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone
I'll be painting a few more of them today -
And then a table
And then a buffet/hutch
And maybe, just maybe, a chandelier !

I've got sunshine ( on a cloudy day )
When it's cold outside, I've got the month of May......................

This is a 2 song post

Painting regular furniture to use outdoors

Good morning everyone !

We picked up a table and 4 chairs this weekend ( for a song ) to use outside - I also had a pair of cane chairs that I wanted to use outdoors.  I started this project in January ( well the painting the fabric on one chair part ) and then tucked them into the mud room because there were so many other things that needed to be done - and it was winter

But it's summer now - and we needed some nice comfy chairs to plunk down in after trying to organize this backyard

I hadn't painted fabric since I helped Caroline from Piorra Maison paint this gorgeous piece ( HERE )

I was having a S.T.U.P:I.D day and forgot to take a before shot but here's the after

SHOCK ALERT - I did NOT use chalk paint on the body of the chair - I had a couple of tins of this pretty aqua spray paint - and because the sides are cane, it just seemed like the easy thing to do

I DID, however, paint the cushions with chalk paint - pure white ( this is after 1 coat - I have to do another
I think )

In case anyone wants to try painting fabric with chalk paint - it's best if you dampen the fabric prior and apply the paint on to the dampened fabric right away.

AND NEVER, BUT NEVER apply wax on anything that you're going to keep outside - the wax will melt
( unless you want to wax your thighs every time you sit in them in the sun :)

Next up !!!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend - the swamp pool gets started today

The ducks made themselves scarce yesterday - nary a one and the ground hog must have been sleeping in
Heavenly peace because we didn't see it either :)
Oh Happy Day (s) are here again

 Have a great Monday
 Much love,

Sometimes I feel like a Mule Skinner - sideboard makeover

JOHN SAYS MY POSTS ARE FILLED WITH A LOT OF NONSENSE - WARNING -
THIS ONE IS IN PARTICULAR - SO YOU CAN SKIP DOWN TO THE LAST 2 PHOTOS IF
YOU JUST WANT A MAKEOVER

Music inspires me - ALL music - Jazz - Rock 'n Roll - Rock - Folk - Gospel - Reggae and Country - I love it all - which is why I try desperately to infuse you with lyrics that get stuck in your head all day.
( you're welcome )

I woke up yesterday morning - and belted out Good Mornin' Captain !!!

John says - WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SCREECHING FOR?  as he buries his head under the blankets

Suzan says - I'm yodelling

John says - That's NOT yodeling - who do you think you are Julie Andrews?

Suzan says - Julie Andrews yodelled?

John says - Yeah - when she was escaping the mountains with all those kids

Suzan says - Oh - that's not the type of yodelling I'm doing..................

John says - Well it's horrid - can you stop please?  Because you're NO Julie Andrews!

Suzan says - Well you're no MERLE HAGGARD - as I scream out Hee Hee Ha Ha Hey Hey .....

Suzan says - I feel like an old Mule Skinner - so no I don't think I will stop

John says - What in God's name is a Mule Skinner?

Suzan says - Someone who keeps Mules in line - so it's very appropriate

John grew up on classical hymns - I grew up with Mule Skinner Blues -

And if I can appreciate and love " Were you there when they crucified my Lord "

Well .....................then he should learn to appreciate a little Hee Hee Hee ha ha HEY HEY -

don't you think?

You should see how quickly I can paint a piece of furniture listening to this kind of music blasting.

John says - When you're finished - could you make me a tea please...............

Suzan says - dancing out of the room - Sure - I'll bring the buck buck bucket down - whah whah whah

John says - NOW YOU SOUND LIKE A DUCK

John says - Just one morning - I'd give anything for just ONE NORMAL MORNING...................

John yells - You ARE NOT playing that music outside in the summer !!!!!!!

( I had an Uncle that sang this to absolute perfection -

Bonus points if any of you knew which song I was talking about

And this is what I painted ( mostly to this type of music ) You can hate it but you can't deny it's energy
Man can this song get me going - seriously !  If you're at work DON'T blast this - if you're at home, go for it - this songs needs to be LOUD

Another treasure found on CL -
Solid?  Yes
Functional? Yes
Boring ?  Yes

I decided this needed to be lightened up - too dark and foreboding - it came from a Church and it looks like it's about to give a sermon on Fire and Brimstone - and it smells of incense like you wouldn't believe...............A good dose of shallac can take care of the odor ( or 2 ) and a good painting can take care of the rest :)

I painted it with Annie Sloan's Old White - and added a little detail to the doors -

Then I distressed - using a sander and by hand until it was just the way I wanted it

I painted the handles in place ( pulling an Annie Sloan here )

Then I decided to add a little to the inside!

I did the stripes in different directions for even more of a little surprise

I like the little bit of wood showing in them - because that's the only place any wood is left on her!

Here's one I did a couple of years ago - aren't they fun?

ok - back to the buffet

I painted the interior cupboards with a pale yellow I had on hand ( just latex paint, shhhh, so I'll have to seal it with some polyurethane )

and while that was drying - I attacked the doors

She wants to show you her backside ( something she could NEVER do in Church )

( that's why the lady is a tramp  ♪♫♪♪  )

how many songs can I fit into one post?  ohhh probably just about as much as the nonsense I can fill it with.

Well...................♪ she never picked cotton  like her Mama did - and her Brother did and her Sister did and her Daddy died young  ( working in the coal mine ) ♪

OK - FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO SKIPPED THE NONSENSE - HERE'S THE MAKEOVER -

BEFORE

AFTER

John says - Oh look, there's a line outside
Suzan says - Huh?
Suzan says - Don't tell me - An electric wire's down?
John says - No - A LINE - For your performance

LMHO - really - he keeps me in stitches!

I just put it on full blast as I'm getting ready to sign off - John immediately got up from his desk and left the office - mumbling something about living in a madhouse.............
Soda promptly followed him.
The two of them need to lighten up.

Cha cha cha !

P.S. - I'm giggling here by myself picturing some of your horrified reactions to Mule Skinner Blues -
really - LMHO -
This is the type of thing that keeps me blogging LOL
Have a great day :)

P.S.S. and if you want to see the controversy that painting furniture can stir up - check out my post on Hometalk HERE - whoa there's some angry people out there !

Graphite - take me away

Good morning everyone !

Part 2 of the bedroom set makeover - I even have a before for you this time !

I have to tell you I've enjoyed every single second of this makeover - truly !

I wish I had a place to stage them properly - I'm doing this smack in the middle of a room being built
Who does that?
Obviously I do - but who else does that?

At least the details are renovation free :)
Black and white photo anyone?

beautiful details in the drawers -

a place to keep change..............

and a VERY feeble attempt to stage it - but look at that beautiful waxed sheen !

can we " frost ": the reno's out of there?

nah - didn't think so - anyway - it is what it is - which is a dresser makeover - being done in a house makeover - by a woman who needs a complete makeover.....................

so this is what you get - but hey - it's one hell of a better pic than you got with the ladies dresser
here

Have to run and tackle those end tables now :)

Paint used :  Annie Sloan Chalk Paint - GRAPHITE - and clear wax

Have a wonderful Monday
Much love,

Dresser Makeover

'Morning all !!!

dresser, painted, Annie Sloan, Pure White, Graphite

If you'll remember this was the dresser I put a bid on last Friday -

Annie Sloan - Pure White, Graphite, Dresser Makeover

With this wonderful slab of granite on top

Which turned out to be not so wonderful pretty damaged laminate :(

John went and picked it up on Friday - you know by now that even when he says NO he always picks the pieces up anyway, right?

As soon as he got it home I set to work painting black ( just used craft paint for it ) into all the crevices of those gorgeous details

John says - Well you've ruined it now - all the details are hidden
Suzan says - Ya think?
John says - I don't understand you.  At all.  You bought the piece for the details and
Suzan interrupts - Isn't there a hockey game or something on?

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Dresser Makeover

Now there's a reason I do this - I know that Dark wax looks great in all those crevices - it worked perfectly with this dresser for instance ( you can see that makeover HERE )

Using Annie Sloan Dark Wax

But sometimes when I'm painting something Pure White - I prefer black in the crevices instead of the brown from dark wax - and honestly?
It's much easier to just slap black paint all over it lol
This is the look I was going for - although this is only one coat of white - you can still get the " picture "

Next I did all the perimeter's of the drawers

John walks by to take Soda out for a walk -
John says - Not that you'll take my advise - but if your painting that dresser white - the black edging will be too stark
Suzan says  Well - you got something right there
John says - Well I DON'T believe it - you finally agree with me -
Suzan says - No - you're right that I'm not going to take your advise..............

Sheesh - leave me alone already.....................( I guess there's no hockey game on tonight )

Here it is after the 2nd coat

How to furniture details pop

I painted the laminate top surface with ASCP Graphite - keep in mind this paint will cover any surface so yes even a counter top material is fine.

See those boxes behind the dresser?
I tried to hide them from view for the photos and then forgot they were there.
See that horrible attempt at staging the dresser?
All my tchotchke's have been long packed away - this is what happens when you paint furniture 12 days
before moving.

I haven't waxed this piece yet because - well - I didn't feel like it LOL - and I know I should have before I showed it to you because the wax makes all the difference - but.....................I'm just too tired!

Dresser Makeover - Annie Sloan Pure White

I'm thinking a slab of white marble could turn this into a pretty cool kitchen island actually - and if that's the case then these drawers pulls would work much better for the lower drawers

Overstock

But for now - for all intents and purposes - let's just call it a dresser
( and while we're at it - let's just call it done )
